Road Intersections Drawn In A Snap! | Back to User Tips

A useful routine in MapScenes Pro and MapScenes 2006 is the Road Intersection Wizard.

The command can be run from the following locations
1a) In MapScenes Pro - the MapScenes pulldown menu -> Streets and Intersections -> Road Intersection Wizard

1b) In MapScenes 2006 – The MsTools menu -> Streets and Intersections -> Road Intersection Wizard

2) Or you can pick on the  button on the left side of the screen in MapScenes Pro.

3) You can type the command RIW in MapScenes Pro or MapScenes 2006.

When started you will see the following screen:

Setup the dialog as desired. The more important items here are the Lane Width, Length of Road and Corner Radius. They control the size and shape of the intersection you are creating. The Road Edge Color and linetype can be set here for the entire intersection – but you can edit individual ones later if required. The insertion point is the center point, where all the lanes meet. Hit apply to keep the changes for the next drawing. Pick Next to continue on to the next dialog.

This dialog allows you to create a very complicated or simple intersection, to meet your requirements.
Simply pick on the legs you require, placing the check mark at the end of the lane. Then set the number of lanes and the angle they come in/out of the intersection.

You will see the intersection build in front of your eyes as you pick. Change the angle or number of lanes and it is instantly done on screen.

You can modify the Center Line properties (linetype and color), if desired, then apply the values for future intersections as the defaults. Hit Finish and the intersection is completed as you have designed.

The linework is automatically drawn on the layer ROAD_INTERSECTION. The layer is created if it does not already exist.
