How to draw wide lines to represent
fog lines or centerlines on pavement | Back to User Tips
NOTE: With MapScenes 2006 all entities support line widths. This is obsolete for 2006.
You have a couple of options, depending upon the situation.
1. The most common way is to set the width on lines in the
print command. All entities in the drawing that have the same color will then
print using the pen width set. This way all straight lines as well as curves
and curved polylines will all print using the desired width.
2. On 2D polylines, you can set a Width or Halfwidth to the
polyline by picking that option on the Option Bar, while running the polyline
command. This works well on Straight Polylines only. Curved polylines do not
maintain the width. Other lines and arcs cannot have a width assigned to them
in this way. Linework setup this way will plot accurately no matter what
printing scale you print at (including FIT).
To set the width using the print command, you first need to start the print
command, and then choose what it is you are printing (window, extents, view
nview) by picking the button on the option bar. Then when the dialog comes up,
pick on the CONFIGURE button in the bottom right corner. A new dialog will now
be on screen.
Near the top left, make sure you pick "Use Line Width
Settings" to turn it on. Then in the table in the bottom left, pick on the
color you wish to set the line width for. To the right of this table, fill in
the field for "Linewidth (inch)". The value would be the width of the
line on paper when printed. Then pick the Change button to complete the change.
Set any other colors, in the ame way, to the width desired.
Pick OK to return to the previous dialog. These settings
will be saved automatically for the next scene. The only time you would need to
modify them would be if the drawing scale (and/or the print scale) changed,
which means the width on paper would change. If you are printing the scene to
FIT to the paper (rather than to a specific print scale), then you will not be
able to be accurate with the widths. They can be set to an assigned width but
they will only print as a representation of a wide line, not to scale. Now
complete the print and you will have the widths showing on paper for your
linework.
