NTSB Chooses MapScenes Pro System

Westbank, BC – MicroSurvey® is pleased to announce that the National Transportation Safety Board has chosen the MapScenes Pro System for the investigation and mapping of serious accidents across the USA.  The National Transportation Safety Board office in Arlington, Texas is the home of a special team mandated to investigate accidents involving five or more fatalities.

The team chose the Evidence Recorder Pro with new Sokkia total stations as their measuring and diagramming system.  The Evidence Recorder Pro software, running on small hand-held computers, creates an accurate diagram right at the scene.  This diagram helps to confirm that all the evidence has been collected before the scene is cleared.  After returning to the office, the Evidence Recorder is downloaded into the MapScenes Pro software to create the finished, scaled diagrams.  These diagrams can be used for further analysis or courtroom presentations.

The NTSB members were particularly impressed with the ability to accurately map vehicle crush in 3D.  The graphics in the Evidence Recorder Pro allows them to zoom, pan, and rotate the vehicle to any view as it is being collected.  The connectivity functionality allows for easy linework along the edges of the vehicle.

Mr. Steve McKinzie is an original trainer for the NTSB. He demonstrated the new system to the NTSB members in August with delivery to Arlington in September. "Serious incidents requires professional software and hardware", says McKinzie. "This team, united with this technology, will undoubtedly serve these investigations to a level that will document evidence with the speed and accuracy required for tomorrow's reconstructions."

Mr. McKinzie has an extensive background in law enforcement, accident reconstruction, commercial vehicles, forensic mapping, and courtroom testimony. He is a Sokkia Dealer and MicroSurvey Certified MapScenes Pro Instructor since the program's original release in 2000 and has instructed forensic mapping and MapScenes classes from coast to coast.
